LEEDS, ME: Republican frontrunner Bobby Charles today released a three-step plan to stop Sharia law and prevent the Islamification of Maine, making him the first gubernatorial candidate in New England to put forward a comprehensive strategy on the issue. No New England state has enacted a foreign law ban. Charles says Maine should be first.

Florida acted this spring. Texas has acted repeatedly. While more than a dozen states across the country have now passed foreign law prohibitions, Maine Democrats under Governor Janet Mills have moved in the opposite direction, passing sanctuary laws, shielding illegal immigration enforcement, and blocking every measure that would put Mainers first. Democratic frontrunner Nirav Shah has said nothing.

"Janet Mills has spent eight years making Maine a sanctuary for people who don't respect our laws. Nirav Shah will spend the next four doing the same. I won't. One country. One law."

- Bobby Charles

STEP 1: PASS A FOREIGN LAW PROHIBITION

Charles will push legislation prohibiting Maine courts from enforcing any foreign or religious legal code, including Sharia, that conflicts with the U.S. Constitution or Maine law. Modeled after Florida's action this spring, the bill will also bar public universities from using state or federal funds to promote or support designated terrorist organizations. Florida said it simply: We have our own laws. Maine will say the same.

STEP 2: BAN FOREIGN-LINKED ISLAMIC COMPOUNDS AND EXCLUSIONARY DEVELOPMENTS

Charles will introduce legislation targeting foreign-linked Islamic developments that seek to impose religious law on residents, restrict property rights, or operate as self-contained communities outside American legal norms, following the lead of Texas, which moved aggressively to block exactly this kind of development. The model is the EPIC City scandal in North Texas, where a 402-acre development marketed as an exclusively Muslim community was blocked by Governor Abbott, sued by the Texas AG for securities violations, and is now under active DOJ and HUD investigation. "Texas caught a blueprint for a parallel legal structure operating outside American law. Maine needs to make sure it never gets that far here," said Charles.

STEP 3: DESIGNATE TERROR-LINKED ORGANIZATIONS AND CUT THEIR FUNDING

Charles will direct the Maine Attorney General to designate domestic and foreign terrorist organizations, including the Muslim Brotherhood and CAIR, under state law, restrict their ability to acquire property in Maine, and prohibit any state dollars, university resources, or school facilities from supporting them. "Not one Maine taxpayer dollar will go to any organization with ties to terrorism. Period," said Charles.

Charles drew a sharp contrast with his likely November opponent, Nirav Shah, and outgoing Governor Janet Mills, both of whom have remained silent on the issue while backing sanctuary policies that shield the very communities where the concern is most acute.
