LEEDS, ME: Republican frontrunner for Governor, Bobby Charles, issued a scathing statement today following reports that Democrat gubernatorial candidate and former State Senate President, Troy Jackson, failed to pay his property taxes while simultaneously voting to increase the tax burden on Maine families.
"While Troy Jackson and the radical Democrats were busy raising our taxes and making Maine unaffordable for everyone else, it appears Troy couldn't even be bothered to pay his 'fair share,'" said Bobby Charles. "It’s the classic Augusta double standard: one set of rules for the elite politicians, and another for the hardworking people of Maine who are struggling to keep their heat on."
The reports come as Jackson, a career politician from Allagash, faces renewed scrutiny over his residency and financial dealings in Augusta. Charles noted that Jackson’s failure to settle his own tax obligations is a slap in the face to the thousands of Mainers currently facing record-high property tax bills.
"Mainers are tired of being lectured about 'fairness' by a man who treats tax laws as optional for himself but mandatory for you," Charles continued. "Corrupt Democrat politicians like Troy Jackson have turned Augusta into a playground for the establishment. They need to be run out of town. My mission is simple: eliminate the income tax over four years, slash hundreds of mandates that are driving property taxes sky high, and finally bring accountability back to our state government."
Bobby Charles currently leads the Republican field by double digits in the three most recent public polls, running on a "Maine First" platform that prioritizes economic relief and law and order.
